Biography
Charlette Bowling received their Bachelor’s in General Studies with a double minor in Communication Studies and Sociology. In their undergraduate program, they served as a student ambassador for the IU School of Liberal Arts (SLA) at IUPUI, they participate as a peer mentor the Nina Mason Pulliam and 21st Century Scholar Support programs for multiple years, and achieved the acknowledgment of the Dean's list for their final three semesters in their undergraduate degree. Charlette works with the IU School of Liberal Arts in Indianapolis at the IUPUI campus for the Global Health Communication Center (GHCC). Charlette works as a Research Associate with Dr. John Parrish-Sprowl, the Director of the GHCC, and together with other research and faculty associates they worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) on research regarding Community Engagement Framework in 2018 and ongoing projects. Charlette became a Master’s student in the Applied Communication Program at IUPUI SLA upon acceptance in January 2020, and continues to work on GHCC projects to raise awareness.
Charlette served two years on a local nonprofit’s Board of Directors during her master's program. They filled multiple roles in her time there, including: Vice President of Operations, Director of Accessibility, Director of IT, and Director of Technology Integration. They also have a staff position at IUPUI in the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) and works with other units like the Human Resources Administration at IUPUI to edit their website and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office as a co-facilitator for annual mediation training and refresher courses during the year with facilitator Dan Griffith, the Equal Opportunity Council Chair, of which Charlette and all of the IUPUI OEO staff are members. They assist in planning and facilitation of the council meetings. Charlette is passionate about being of service to the community and finding the most effective ways of reaching all people in intersectional spaces, including at the global level. Charlette became an ordained minister in 2012, and is also an entrepreneur in working with delivery of healing intuitive messages and counseling in a spiritual capacity as well as connecting their own life story and experiences with their work. They have been working on constructing their own testimonial and story to reach everyone since 2011, but the story continues as they gain more experiences with their service, work, and graduate program studies and research with hopes of moving on to a doctoral program in health communication.
